Napsa, Nkana seek semifinal rewards in Barclays Cup

Share

The 2014 Barclays Cup takes centre stage on Saturday with a semifinal doubleheader in store at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Zesco United face Napsa Stars in the lunchtime kickoff while Nkana take on Konkola Blades in the late afternoon match.

Napsa and Zesco will meet in a semifinal match that will pit the only former champions still in the race after two-time champions Power were eliminated in the last eight by Nkana.

Zesco are the record three-time champions while Napsa have won the Barclays Cup in their debut in 2012.

Zesco coach George Lwandamina will be hoping to be the first coach to win the Barclays Cup in successive seasons with two different clubs and lifting it with Red Arrows in 2013.

Napsa on the other hand are out for revenge against Zesco who beat them 1-0 and 2-0 in the league this season.

“We are playing a big team like Zesco who have beaten us twice in the league this season,” Napsa coach Hector Chilombo said.

“This time around we also want to upset tables.”

Meanwhile, Napsa are not the only ones with payback on their minds.

Beston Chambeshi faces Blades who beat Nkana 1-0 in the league on September 3.

The defeat was even more painful for Chambeshi in what was his first against Blades since he dumped them in July to coach Nkana.

“It is not about revenge. It is a cup game and we are going to respect them. They have reached the semifinals meaning they are not a bad team, they are a good team,” Chambeshi said.

The 90 minutes should tell a different tale should Chambeshi win.
