The Patriotic Front (PF) Party in Lusaka has accused the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) of manipulating the voters register ahead of the tripartite elections this year.
Some PF members from Mandevu last evening stormed Muvi TV with claims that they have documents of untallied figures of the number of registered voters in the area.
PF Constituency Secretary, Lusale Kanyanta also claimed the documents show that some polling stations registered no voters during the registration period, which he says can never be the case for Mandevu.
They further appealed to ECZ to clarify the issue.
But ECZ Public Relations Manager, Chris Akufuna says the claims by the PF members are not justified.
Mr. Akufuna says the documents in question are old and are not a true representation of the current register as at now.
He has,therefore, urged the general public to seek consultation from the commission for any query.
Mr Akufuna further said the ECZ has also announced a voter verification period to allow people to verify their registration and details.
Meanwhile, Mr. Akufuna says the ECZ has managed to cover all the nine provinces in the delimitation exercise.
Mr. Akufuna says the commission is overwhelmed with the response from the various submissions.
He says most of the demands from public are that the number constituencies should be increased.
Mr. Akufuna says the ECZ will have to compile the data then submit to the relevant authorities.

ECZ should make these numbers known publicly. Everyone should be able to tell, how many registered voters we have by province, district, constituency and ward. That way when election time comes, no-one should be fooled by the numbers. ECZ has to show transparency and this is one proposed step towards that.
Ba PF looks like the PF are out to look for any execuse to justify whatever. I think these guys are just being too negative and might end up taking the eye off the ball and instead of convincing voters, they will be busy looking for black cat in a dark room and hoping to find it. focus on campaign please than looking for a block cat in a dark room

Mwebantu I still insist, Zambia is still not going to see a free and fair elections, as long as the people counting the elections, the ECZ are appointed by one of the candidates. It beats me that we Zambianss can still be so naive to expect Mambilima fimofimo at the end of the day to tell R&B ati u have lost; this man appointed her she naturally owes him something by this appointment. Instead of waisting time trying to fight the impossible, we peace loving zambians should be busy now looking for ways to improve some of this areas of the constitution. i have never read/head any govt official /dept say they will investigate and give a comprehensive statement when ever comfronted with accusation of wrong doing. The standard and only answer they know is ….its not possible…its not justified…Are these people in govt super human that thay dont make mistakes?

Wheather you like it or not, elections will be rigged. Where are those old documents coming from? If nothing is done about rigging, no matter how much the opposition will campaign, no matter how popular, MMD will carry the day by rigging the polls. The only way, is to find out from Mbita Chitala what happened during the last elections.

It looks like people are psyching themselves for rejection of unfavourable poll results. Please Zambians, this is your country but do not die or kill your brothers and sisters for anyone. Let politicians fight for your votes but don’t burn the country and your houses because the people pretending to bring you better lives will not do so, and will always have somewhere to run to when the going gets tough. There’s something amiss here, Akufuna says the documents in question are old, I thought old documents are supposed to be filed & archived? How did those documents find themselves in public domain, & how are they being used? There’s something fishy that Akufuna is not explaining, just dismissing the allegations as unjustified is not enough. ECZ must do better on this. PF might have a point, Govt departments have never accepted criticism whenever they do wrong & are exposed. This culture of just dismissing allegations without countering with facts is dangerous.

Asked why he could not support a young person like UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema as he had done in the past, Col Panji said Hichilema could not win this year’s presidential election.
“The youngman that is there Hichilema cannot win an election. We have tried to sell him since 2006 but he has failed to win; he has always been coming out third. There is no way you can get anybody else to win other than Sata. I can put my life at stake and tell you that this is the right man for Zambia,” he said.
Asked why he did not support his young brother Tilyenji who is UNIP president, Col Panji said the country’s longest surviving political party was dying.
“I don’t think he Tilyenji is ready to be president of this country. UNIP is dying, unfortunately in the hands of the founding father’s son,” Col Panji said.
And asked if he could accept a job offer from the MMD government, Col Panji refused, saying he had no hope that the government would deliver after failing to do so in the last 20 years.
Col Panji, however, said he would accept a job from the PF government if it felt that he had something to contribute to the welfare of the country.
“My aim is to see change of government, and if the new government feels I should occupy a position, I wouldn’t say ‘no’. If I say ‘no’ you will say ‘you are a bloody cheat Kaunda’! But I wouldn’t accept a job from the MMD government,” he said.
And Col Panji said MMD had corrupted the political system in the country
He said youths would have a proper platform after the PF government had provided a better Republican constitution.
“Before 2011, that is not possible. There is no way that you can get another person to win (elections) other than Sata. It’s not possible; if it were possible we would have preferred a young person. We want the young people to go there when the system is cleaned,” Col Panji said. “They will have a proper platform when there is a constitution, good judiciary, proper ECZ Electoral Commission of Zambia and everything put in place. For us to do this, it is to get that old man Sata in there.”
He said other political parties should begin working together with PF since it was the only party with clear chances of winning.
“If the MMD, for example, had a fantastic agriculture policy which can make the country change overnight, and I’m a farmer and I believe that my party’s agriculture policies are not good, I think I should be able to support the MMD which I know I will benefit from their policies,” said Col
Panji. “So any party that comes in place with good policies we should feel free to support so that we can achieve what we want to achieve. That’s the way politics works everywhere.”

Where did the old voters register come from? To stop the rot can we see the new one. Each one who has ever registered since the 2006 elections registration verify these registers then we shall know who is cheating.
